lookee! I'm first!

Hey, I'm moving to Austin this summer!

I do any craft. Those I don't do I will do some day. I might even figure out how to make a living from it one of these days. Meanwhile I am a mostly unemployed artist/Information Architect. Who else is here?

Welcome! I've been here 10+ years. I love Austin!
I'm 25, and work in advertising as a media buyer, which I love, but will probably go back for my MBA.
I love paper and fabric crafts, as well as painting. Tough to find a craft I don't love, actually.

I thought I might also mention that I don't live in Austin yet. I'm planning to move in May or June. Also if there is enough interest, I'm planning to establish a branch of the Church of Craft down there.

There is a Church of Craft group already in Austin. See groups.yahoo.com/group/chu...aftaustin/ for details.

Hmmm, that's interesting. They aren't listed on the C of C site and when I mentioned it to Callie who is one of the founders, she thought it was a great idea to start a chapter down there. How very curious!

Who knew? They do exist. I guess it's semi-informal. It looks like they just hadn't been that active yet, but they will be when I get down there!

Actually, the CoCers are fairly active. The meetings are set for twice a month and usually have a directed activity (i.e. Jenny Hart of Sublime Stitching comes to give a demonstration on embroidery techniques or a stash trade or making record boxes). The group was started right before Christmas so it is still picking up momentum but it is definitely active.

Hello there! I've got too many hobbies, and love anything artsy-craftsy. Lately, I've been into jewelry fabrication, working primarily with silver, and a little bit with gold. Also giving casting a try.

Other than that, I sew, print, paint, bead, etc etc etc!

This is such a great town to be a crafter and actually make a living at it if you get your stuff out there. If looking to sell you should check out Moxie and the Compound or Parts and Labor, both are where you pay a small amount for some space per month and they take care of the selling. I know Moxie takes a small commission on top of that as well. We ladies have to stick together!

I feel like an idiot, I've never heard of these places. I'm looking to possibly start selling sometime next year (I was going to try fine art shows/craft shows), but it would be good to test the waters by renting space and having someone take care of it (since I work full time and go to school full time right now...).

If you have more information on these places, send me a note, I'd like to learn more about em! :)
