Before I left Los Angeles I was working on a bunch of similar art projects. I wanted a glossy finish but not sure what to use. The tops of my art projects are covered with a collage of paper type materials.

Beer labels
Magazine pages
News print

Any suggestions?

  • You can get spray lacquer stuff in an aerosol can at craft stores. I had pretty good luck with that on projects I used paper on and wanted to seal. Have you tried that stuff?
    • I have better knowledge of art materials and have used spray sealer and that seems to work pretty good. I really need to get back to Southern California to get all of my unfinished art projects and supplies.... Hopefully April or June. I'll definitely try a spray lacquer / like glue?

I feel a lot more confidence in display, showing and even selling my art.

      • Newsprint is a more porous paper, and not prone to gloss, but if your magazine pages are that high-gloss type of page, you have a paper impregnated with inks that contain a sort of clay. I do paper mache myself, so the texturing is kind of important. I've been dabbling with the idea of paper making using recycled papers, and that's where I ran into this info.... Apparently it's more intensive for recycle centers to recycle the high gloss stuff for this reason...
Long story short: Maybe don't mix your paper types if you can help it?

Good luck, hope i said something useful...
