I wanted to post the groups in town that meet for crafting. These are the three that I am aware of. If you know of anymore, please add them to the list.

Church of Craft - groups.yahoo.com/group/chu...aftaustin/

Austin Glitterati (freeform -any craft- SnB 1-2 times per month) - groups.yahoo.com/group/ausglitterati/

I'm curious what craft educational institutions exist in Austin also.

I know of stampin up rep who does classes/workshops :) But I don't think that is what you are talking about.

The Austin Museum of Art has some interesting classes. And there is a new place called Blue Moon Glassworks that does glass fusing classes and the like. It looks like they are also having a local art fair too in April.

In addition to the ones Sara mentioned, here are a few more...

Austin Community College has a great credit jewelry program. They also offer some non-credit courses, too. They also have Art courses, such as drawing, printmaking, etc...

Austin Glass Fusing Center - Last I looked, the website was out of date. If you sign up for the newsletter, you'll get more info.

Dougherty Arts Center offers a decent variety of classes

Nomadic Notions offers some beading classes

      Clayworks offers pottery classes

Honestly, I can vouch for ACC and Austin Museum of Art. I'm in my 2nd year at ACC in the Jewelry program, and I've volunteered for the Museum of Art - Art School. But I've looked into the Glass Fusing Center, Blue Moon Glassworks (got recommended to Blue Moon, and met one of the teachers), and the Dougherty Arts Center as well. Just haven't had the time to take classes at these places!

Wow, it's interesting that it looks like there is a lot of emphasis on jewelry, glass and ceramics, but not much on fiber arts. Where do folks go to learn to knit, for example? I know that yarn store on So. Congress has classes, but where would you go if you wanted to learn to silkscreen?

I've seen the Austin Museum of Art offer fiber classes some semesters. I also think that I've seen the Dougherty Arts center offer fiber classes as well.

UT Informal Classes (informalclasses.org/index2.html) always have a variety of classes to take. I can see right now they've got the following classes: crochet, knitting, quilting, applique

I think I saw a silk screening class on ACC's list as well, but I can't remember.

Being a ceramics person, I am not sure about fiber arts, but I will keep an eye out.
